About this site...This site was originally created as the Lee Valley Lions Nostalgia Site in January-March 2001, when it went live. I set up the site to remember the Lee Valley Lions team that played between 1984 and 1995, using my extensive collection of old programmes and memorabilia. The content was boosted with kind donations from other Lions fans and Lions players such as Vesa Pennanen. I totally redesigned the site in September-October 2004 in order to make standards-complaint code (XHTML Transitional) that would function with the widest array of browsers. The code was simplified and streamlined to make the pages load faster and more reliably. At the same time I added a theme changer to allow visitors the choice of viewing the site in Lee Valley Park colours or those of later-year sponsors, British Engine. 2005 saw the Lee Valley Lions reform. I began incorporating information about the new team into the site but it soon became clear from the forums that I introduced that the site's visitors were people interested in the new team, not the old one. As such, in September 2005 I decided to make the new Lions the main focus of the site and incorporate all the previous site content into a Team History section. Photoshop CS and Fireworks MX 2004 were used to create the site design and graphics. Arles Image Web Page Creator was used in the original version of this site to create the photo pages (but the code was then modified and expanded as further pages were added). Photos were either taken/scanned by me or are used with permission of the copyright holder, where that person is known. All photographers and contributors have been credited on the relevant pages. In particular my thanks goes to Keith Berry, John Thorn, Jim Graves, Vesa Pennanen, Mike Ewer and Mel Grundy, all of whom have contributed two or more photos (many more in some cases) to the original Lee Valley Lions Nostalgia Site. All photos have been cropped/resized/adjusted using Photoshop CS. The site as a whole was rewritten in Dreamweaver MX 2004 with plenty of hand-coding. The site was further redesigned in August 2006 to incorporate a new photo banner and a hierarchical menu which took inspiration from a tutorial at Interspire's site. The photos pages were becoming too large to control, so I switched to using a database application called Coppermine. The theme changer in the Team History section was implemented via Dreamweaver extensions available at the Project Seven site. It requires Javascript and cookies to be enabled in your browser in order to function. It works with Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera but may not work with FireFox (last tested with version 1.0). If the theme changer is not working for you please check your browser settings. The default style will still be displayed, even if the theme changer is not functioning. The themes available are the British Engine colours of red/black/white (default style) and the Lee Valley Park colours of blue/green/white. As the new team plays in green/blue/white I have removed the theme changer from those pages. PHP and MySQL have been used to provide interactivity. The scripts used are heavily modifed versions of those found via the Hotscripts site and are all freeware/open source. The copyright of the scripts remains with their original authors, namely Ian Willis for the search facility, phpBB for the forums, PHPNews for the news facility on the home page and CodeGrrl for the image verification on the forms. The site has been designed to work in all browser sizes due to the flexible structure of the pages. However, using a resolution of 800x600 or below will cause a few of the season results pages in the Team History section (those from the original Lee Valley Lions Nostalgia Site) to not display properly as there is insufficient width for the page contents. Alternate, stripped down results pages are provided for 800x600 users. If you are using a resolution below 800x600 then it really is time to get a new monitor. Page structure is XHTML and all code has been tested for validity with the standard w3 validator. Content and appearance is controlled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The site has been tested in Windows versions of Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera as log files show the vast majority of my visitors are Windows IE users. If you encounter any problems with the way pages are displayed please get in touch so the problems can be remedied - thanks. CopyrightThe design and content of this site are © 2001-2012 Julianne Bonner/leevalleylions.co.uk, except where stated otherwise (see below). No part of the design or content may be reproduced without permission, so if you would like to use any of the information or photos from this site please use the Contact Us page. No reasonable request will be refused. The main Lee Valley Lions logo was sampled from original Lions merchandise, so its copyright remains with Steve James. Steve has given permission for his lion logo to be used for the new team and in turn I have been given permission by the new team's management. I have never been able to get in touch with Steve myself. I created the lettering surrounding the logo from scratch but its style mimicks the original lettering used. Every site contributor has been credited on the page where their contribution is displayed, whether this be words or images. In the case of photos the photographer has been credited when known and in most cases the original copyright holder has provided consent. If you recognise any uncredited photos on this site as being yours please get in touch via the Contact Us page. The Lee Valley Lions Junior Ice Hockey Club logo has been used with permission. What this site doesn't have...This site doesn't have information about the Lee Valley Lions Junior teams as they have their own dedicated site (see below). The ED1 team has been formed as an extension to the Junior club teams and receives financial support from them. This site is about the original senior Lee Valley Lions team that played from 1984 to 1995, as well as the new ED1 team that started playing in 2005. As the Junior teams have their own website I have not included any info about the current Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 or Under 19 Junior Lions teams here, nor anything about how to learn to skate or play hockey. If you would like to know about the Junior Lee Valley Lions please visit their site, which is at www.leevalleylions.org.uk. |
