This season was my first (aged eleven) of watching ice hockey and my local team, Telford Tigers. I clearly remember our final league game against the Lions, with you needing a win to have any chance of pipping our arch-rivals, Solihull Barons, to the title (I think I'm right in saying that this was the Lions' penultimate game?). It was a classic match with Tigers eventually coming out on top, 7-6. I remember the Lions players looking completely deflated at the final hooter, but they were given a great ovation by both sets of supporters as they left the ice – I don't think many Tigers fans would have minded if you'd won!
The Lions instantly became my 'second' team after this game. I loved your stylish kit, brilliant Finnish players and great supporters – particularly the chant of 'Vesa, Vesa, Vesa,' every time he made a save! I was delighted when you won the Autumn Trophy a few weeks later.
We had some amazing matches over the years with some crazy scorelines – 21-14 to Tigers and 16-12 to Lions being just of them! We both came agonizingly close to reaching the top league in the 80s, and it's great to see our club's thriving once again.

How true it is I cant say from my own knowledge ,but in that Telford game we were up at the second period and the story goes that that out them manager, Mike Smith, went into the dressing room and said that we could never compete as a team in the Premier league , so that if we won the match most of the guys now playing would not be wanted next year. And the game which we were well up in became a bit of a rout that we lost. No telling how true that is but I heard it from more than one source.
