1988/89 Season - Heineken Division 1Medway had to forfeit a game they played against the Lions (in which they won 10-1) for icing an ineligible player, giving the Lions a much needed two points for the imposed 5-0 scoreline! The top four teams played a round-robin series of matches to determine who would be promoted to the Premier Division, the clear winner being Cleveland Bombers. In the Leading Scorers tables for the season, Kurt Wickenheiser (Lion who defected to Medway) and Mark Salisbury both were eighth in the Leading Scorers and Leading British Scorers categories respectively. The Lions came third on the list of highest number of penalty minutes over the season (213), beaten only by Cleveland and Humberside. Mark Salisbury made it to seventh on the list of individual penalty minutes.
