Additional Comments:

Here's what was printed in the match programme...

"Tonight we are back in the market looking for league points once again. The Lions have done remarkably well in their first league season of Division One competition and, whilst we cannot expect to gain first place, we would like to finish in the top half of the table.

"Our opponents this evening, the Grimsby Buffaloes, are finding the going hard and are placed third from the bottom of the League table at present. We welcome them and their supporters upon their first visit and look forward to a closely contested match.

"Last Sunday we had the privilege of seeing the Don Mills Comets in action. These Canadians are one of the best touring teams to have visited our shores and will be moving on to challenge Durham, Whitley Bay, Cleveland, Solihull and Nottingham. It will be interesting to see how the Premier Division teams stack up against them.

"Some of our regulars were missing through injury in our match with the Comets. Alan Sandford has been suffering from leg injuries for some weeks now and finally had to be sidelined for a rest period. Hopefully he will be back in the line-up very soon. Dave Rapley was absent because he had strained back muscles caused through lugging heavy carpets around.

"Talking of carpets reminds us that at the end of the season we shall see the red carpet laid out on the ice when our dignitaries will be coming out to make the annual award presentations and tonight we must prepare for this. In the programme you will have found a voting slip for the 'Most Valuable Player' and we would ask you please to enter the name of the player who you consider has been the shining light of the team. Please leave your completed slip at the Box Office. This MVP award is the one which supporters have voted for and is the most prestigious of all. Other awards will be made by club officials and we will advise you of these remaining categories later.

"When making your selection please give due consideration because all of the boys have done their best and whilst some guys do not score too many goals they do help prevent goals against us.

"Once the votes have been counted our team managers will probably provide a list showing how you voted for all the players concerned and these will be published in the programme covering our last home game of the season.

"Geof Williams is additionally sponsored by the Waltham Forest Guardian. If there is a representative from any organisation who might consider sponsorship of any individual, then please contact Mike Smith, the Ice Centre Manager."
