Additional Comments: Lee Valley reached the end of their comeback season with an away encounter against league leaders, Invicta Dynamos. The team knew they wouldn't have an easy time against such formidable opponents, but the Lions played from start to finish with real guts and determination. The Lions were harshly called for having too many men on the ice at 03:15, although similar lapses by the Invicta team went unnoticed. The powerplay situation gave Andy Smith the chance to score his first of four goals, assisted by Peter Carey at 04:28. Smith was sent to the sin bin at 13:10 for a tripping offence, but this handicap did not damage the Dynamos' power, a short-handed goal slipping past George Alley at 14:36. Donald Gagnon scored the final goal of the first period unassisted at 17:15.
Scott Beeson scored unassisted for the Lions at 39:41 with a terrific slapshot and the period ended with the score 6-2 to the Dynamos. In this period Lions scored with 2 out of 7 shots on goal, whereas Dynamos scored 3 out of a massive 16 shots, demonstrating George Alley's competence in goal.
The Lions' two final period goals both came courtesy of Ben Osborne. His hat-trick was only the second Lions hat-trick of the season, the first achieved by Kevin Murphy against Solent back in September 2005. Ben's goals came at 53:16 and 58:46 and were assisted by Nick Braithwaite and Ben Shrubsole respectively. The game ended 9-4 to Invicta Dynamos, but the Lions gave a sterling performance that they could be proud of, the Under 19s players again being a credit to the team. Referee was Dodsworth, Linesmen were Hiscock and Solvjov. | ||
