Lions complete netminder signings

Lee Valley Lions have secured the services of another netminder, Glen Jackson, who played for Streatham Redskins last season. He was in goal when the Lions faced the Redskins last December, facing 23 shots and conceding only 1. Glen will be joining existing netminders Stefan Nubert and George Alley for the Lions’ 2006/07 season.

Latest new signings

Following last night’s trials we are pleased to announce a further four signings to the 2006/07 squad: Joining defence are Billy Whitney and James Hatfull, while Stefan Nubert returns as netminder along with forward Darren Wakeling. The final trials are on 1st August, 7.30pm.

Trials – two more signings

Following last night’s second round of trials we are pleased to announce that last season’s third highest scorer, Richard Hodge, has re-signed with the Lions. We also welcome Michael Jacobs as a permanent member of the new season’s team.

Further trials dates and Lions sign first of new season’s players

Many thanks to everyone who came to the trials this week. Trials are going to continue for the next three Tuesdays, namely on 18th July, 25th July and 1st August. Everyone is welcome – both players who came along this week and anyone who hasn’t yet attended.

Please remember that if you’ve not already registered (ie you didn’t come along this week) you need to be at the rink for 7.30pm for registration. Ice time is 8.15-9.45pm and you need to bring £5 as a contribution towards ice time.

This week’s trials were well attended and there was a lot of positive feedback. Many decisions have yet to be made, but the following players have already signed for the Lions:

Nick Braithwaite
Mark Swaine
Paul O’Neill
Scott Beeson
James Scott-Joseph
Grant Hutcheon
Mark Saunders

More names will be announced over the next few weeks.

Name of new coach announced

I can reveal that the new coach for the 2006/07 season is 41-year-old Ukranian, Sergey Smolenko. Sergey has a wealth of experience, both as a coach and a goaltender, and we look forward to seeing how his direction will improve the team.

I was able to get a quick shot of Sergey at the trials on 11th July, but I hope to get some more details about him, his hockey background etc within the next few weeks.
