URGENT: No training session 3 July & new season registration

Due to unforeseen circumstances tomorrow night’s open training session is cancelled. However, from 10/07/18 we will be registering players for the 2018/19 season. The registration fee of £120 should be paid to head coach, Eddie Joseph.

Anyone interested in joining the Lions can call Eddie on 07958 743680 or see him at next week’s session.

Summer sessions

The Lions will be running summer sessions which will commence on Tuesday 5 June 2018 and continue each Tuesday thereafter until 31 July 2018, 8.30pm to 9.30pm.  The cost will be £10 per player, per session, payable in cash at the start each time.

Death of Darrin Zinger

We are sad to discover that Darrin Zinger, one of the Lions’ defenceman from the 90s team, passed away yesterday after a long illness at the age of 53.  Darrin spent 10 years playing more than 500 games of hockey in the UK, including 5 seasons with Guildford Flames. He iced for the Lions in the 1989/90 season, when his day job was at Body Shop in Covent Garden.  Our thoughts go out to Darrin’s family and friends.

Captain Nick Comes Back

Lee Valley Lions are delighted to announce the return of Captain and leading points scorer Nick Alley. This will be Nick’s fourth season in his second stint with the Lions, having first joined in 2007 before playing for Trafford Metros (now Altrincham Aces) whilst studying in Manchester.

As a junior, Nick split his time with Lee Valley, Haringey and finally Guildford before becoming a senior. Since his return to Lee Valley in 2013, Nick has tallied 71 points for the Lions, taking his total for the club to 125 points in 102 games.

“It would have been a little awkward had he said ‘no’…”, said coach George Alley. “Jokes aside, he’s a very popular member of the team, and despite playing through a couple of serious injuries he’s led them on and off ice through difficult periods and tough results. To me that really underlines his leadership and I know he’ll continue to bring those qualities this season. I’m thoroughly looking forward to working with Nick this year and I know the team will be very happy that he’s back.”

Nick had this to say on returning:

“‘It was always my intention to come back to Lee Valley this season. I started playing here when I was 6, so its home to me. The team spirit is something I’ve not seen at other clubs, and that kept us going through all the injuries. With George coming in, and if we can stay healthy, I believe there is a lot to come from this team, and I want to be a part of that.”
