Additional Comments:

The Lions were thrashed 11-0 by league-leaders Invicta only the previous weekend so the team needed to salvage their reputation on the away leg. However, Lee Valley were again missing several players including Andrzej Maslak, Andy Watt and Rob Courtman which made the task all the more difficult. An injury picked up the previous weekend also prevented Glen Jackson icing so the back-up netminder position was filled by George Alley.

As with the two teams’ previous encounter, the first ten minutes of the match went well, the Lions holding their own and preventing the stronger Invicta side from having any real impact. However, after Andy Smith scored for the Dynamos at 12:23 things soon started to go downhill for Lee Valley. Smith attained a hat-trick that first period, each of his goals being assisted by Canadian Jordy Black. Also scoring was James Fraser, unassisted at 15:40.

The Lions fared no better in the second period, Invicta scoring a further four goals. Two of these were on powerplays as Nicky Braithwaite sat out 2-mins for charging and Mark Swaine received 2-mins for interference. Another was short-handed, scored while Stuart Low served 2-mins for slashing. Lee Valley made several attempts on the Invicta goal but were thwarted each time by the Dynamos’ defence.

With a scoreline of 8-0 to Invicta, George Alley got his opportunity to assist with damage limitation for the duration of the final period. However, the Invicta onslaught was relentless and a further six goals hit the back of Lee Valley’s net.

In the dying minutes it looked like Scott Beeson had prevented Joe Dollin boasting of another shut-out at the Lions’ expense by nudging the puck over the line. However, referee Roman Szucs saw things differently to the goal judge and the goal was disallowed. The Lions had nothing further to add and limped home having lost 0-14.

Referee was Szucs, Linesmen were Goebel and Lalonde.
