Additional Comments:

Lee Valley Lions continued their unbeaten run, this time welcoming Rob Courtman back from injury. With the Devils holding third place in the league table and the Lions still missing the likes of Scott Beeson and Michael Ranby, the home team were at a disadvantage. Nonetheless, although both teams made a good, strong start it wasn’t long before the Lions began to really test Nathan Lawrence in the Solent net. Cleverly crafted play by Stas Prokofiev and Romanas Fedotovas challenged Lawrence on more than one occasion, but it was Ashley Curtin who was finally able to break through the Solent defence and score at 15:35, assisted by Nick Alley and Gennadi Yufit.

At 16:34 Rob Courtman proved he’d not lost his touch, a nifty powerplay goal putting him on the scoresheet with the assists credited to Yufit and Curtin. The Lions’ defence impressed, allowing Andrew Boot to face only two shots on his goal all period.

The second period continued at a fast pace but this time Solent were more successful with shots on goal almost even between the two teams. Both netminders held firm and no goals were scored.

Lee Valley coped well when short-handed and were rarely in danger. They also proved effective on the powerplay when a second such goal was scored at 51:41. Freddie Trimble, who stood out through the whole game, was the scorer but was set up well by James Scott-Joseph and Ashlee Cave.

The Lions increased their lead to 4-0 when a shot from Freddie Trimble was initially stopped before trickling over the line in a slow motion moment at 52:44. Andrew Boot looked to be achieving a shut-out in the Lee Valley net but Solent’s James Bennett finally gave the away fans something to cheer about by scoring at 53:30. The goal caused controversey, Boot protesting strongly to the referee as his helmet had been hit by the puck, meaning that play should have been stopped. Buoyed by their goal being allowed Solent stepped up the pressure and although the Lions made a bit of a meal of the last few minutes they staved off attack to savour another victory.

Referee was Hewitt and Linesmen were Boot and Johnston.
