I have very little information about this game, other than the players’ names and numbers, although Ian Howitt remembers Janne and Ari doing most of the damage against teh visitors. Here’s what was written on the match programme introduction page (author unknown, but believed to be Mike Grafton, AKA Mike Ewer):
“Good afternoon everyone, welcome to tonight’s HBL game against Sheffield Sabres. Let’s make it a warm welcome too, and raise the temperature a bit after the coldest February for 39 years!
“Our visitors are having a miserable season, having won only 2 points, a 6-4 win at Oxford early in the season. Plagued by problems with their refridgeration plant and rink management they didn’t have any ice time for over a month and crashed to two 29-goal defeats in two weeks. However, the Sabres can play a bit, holding Solihull 2-6 and Telford 7-12 before giving us a run for our money last week, the Lions eventually winning 8-3.
“Back to the weather and you’ll be able to keep warm AND support your team from now on as we’ve some bar scarves printed. In green, white and blue, with the Lions’ name and logo printed on them, they are an attractive way to say who you support.”
Ian Howitt tells me that Janne and Ari scored most of the Lions’ goals during this match.
