Additional Comments: The first ever visit of the Swindon Wildcats to the Den and boy, did we make it a good one! Janne Lehti scored 12+9 (21 points), equalling the Heineken League record which was jointly held by Bill Kirk. Mike Fafard scored 6+12, equalling Lions’ record for assists. Lee Whale became the first British player to score 10 points in a League game for the Lions (3+7). Mark Nicholls scored his highest ever in a League, with 2+4. Tari Suwari scored his first League points, with assists on Lions’ goals #1 and #29. We scored 4 goals in 37 seconds and 3 short-handed goals in 12 seconds – all during the second period! We had 10 short-handed goals in total, Janne Lehti scoring 5 of them. Every single Lion that iced got on the scoresheet. Just to mention Swindon – Micky Stafford scored a hat-trick (all powerplays) out of 4 goals scored by Swindon in under 3 minutes during the last period, the last goal being at 59:44. However, this game was not exactly peaceful during the final period when five 2-mins penalties were given for Roughing and four 5-mins penalties for Fighting!!! Referees were Harris and Whelan. |
