RIP Geoff Williams

Geoff Delderfield (L) and Geoff Williams (R)

When Lee Valley Lions first started way back in 1984, the first ever captain was Geoff Williams (known to some as Geof).  He joined the team from Richmond Flyers and left us in 1987 for Medway Bears.  After two seasons there, he spent the rest of his long hockey career with the Lions’ local derby rivals, Romford Raiders.  I have been informed today that Geoff has passed away from a heart attack at the age of 62, leaving wife Tracey, three children and three grandchildren.  Our thoughts go out to Geof’s friends and family at this sad time.

Geoff’s funeral will be held on Monday, 29th September at 2:30pm at:

Sutton Coldfield Crematorium
Tamworth Road
Sutton Coldfield
B75 6LG

All are welcome to join us in remembering and celebrating his life. The family kindly requests traditional funeral attire. If anyone would like further details, please get in touch and we will forward phone numbers to you.

Former Lion returns to the Den

Sponsored by Live Financial Mortgages Lee Hounslow returns to the green and blue after some time away from league hockey. The skilled defender will be looking to make his mark this season, continuing his point-per-game streak in NIHL2.
Coach Simon Jones commented, “Having played with Lee a few years ago I was pleased when the opportunity to sign him came up. Lee is both hugely talented and experienced, which adds a lot to our roster on and off the ice. Lee has moved from forward to defence and brings a calmness on and off the puck that will be an asset to the team in all aspects of the game, but especially in transitions from defence to offence and the powerplay. Lee has already been contributing to the wider team, passing on advice and support. I know Lee is looking forward to getting back on the ice at this level and I am sure he will be a key player for us this year.”

Hamilton returns

Defender Matt Hamilton re-signs with the green and blue for 2025/26. Matt spent last season as team captain, this will be Matt’s 6th season with the Lions and we can’t wait to see what he does. Coach Simon Jones said, “Matt is returning again this season and I am very pleased to have him on board. He is another player with experience at a higher level that brings a sense of calmness to the ice. I am confident that this will be Matt’s best season in a Lions jersey.”

Own and loan shirt sponsorship

Sponsor a player’s shirt, get your name (and a link to your business, if applicable) shown as a sponsor on the Lions’ website and the player will, where possible, present the shirt to you at the end of the season. They’ll also sign it for you if you’d like! The cost is just £60 for your choice between a home or away shirt, or £100 if you’d like to sponsor both. Our current roster is shown here, but own and loan shirt sponsorship will be available for all future signings too, so keep an eye out 👀.

Interested? Contact us via social media OR through our sponsorship page. Priority for specific shirts will go to whose who owned and loaned them last season, but other than that it is first come, first served!

NB Players’ shirt numbers are subject to change.
